Army medical financial-support programs are not all scholarships. Some provide a stipend during professional school or residency, while others may repay qualifying education loans for eligible healthcare professionals in designated specialties.

Medical and Dental School Stipend Program (MDSSP)

MDSSP is an Army Reserve program designed to help eligible medical and dental students manage expenses while completing an accredited professional degree. If selected, you receive a monthly stipend while remaining in the civilian education system and generally continue through the civilian residency-match process.

In exchange for the financial support, you incur an Army Reserve service obligation that begins after the applicable education and residency requirements are complete. Financial Assistance Program (FAP)

FAP supports eligible physicians and certain other health professionals while they complete qualifying civilian residency or fellowship training. The program is intended for specialties the Army needs and may provide an annual grant together with a monthly stipend during approved participation.

If selected for FAP, you complete your civilian training before beginning service in the applicable Army medical corps. Your eligibility may depend on postgraduate training status, examination history, specialty, and current recruiting requirements. Review the financial package and service obligation for the current selection cycle before accepting the program.

Specialized Training Assistance Program (STRAP)

STRAP provides financial support to eligible healthcare professionals completing designated residency or specialty training for the Army Reserve. If selected, you remain in an accredited civilian training program while receiving the authorized assistance.

Army Reserve Health Professions Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP)

Your eligibility may depend on your specialty, unit or assignment category, existing service agreement, and the availability of incentive funding. You may be able to combine loan repayment with another authorized Reserve incentive, but the current written agreement controls what can be used together.

Active Duty Health Professions Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP)
